Case IH 1504-02 - VCM – VCM: Seat switch circuit fault

This fault code indicates an electrical issue with the operator presence system (seat switch). The control module has detected an anomaly in the circuit, which typically means the circuit is open, shorted to ground/power, or the switch is physically stuck. It can also trigger if the module detects that the seat switch has been closed (occupied) continuously for an unrealistic amount of time without ever opening, indicating a bypassed or jammed switch.

   Visually inspect under the operator's seat for any pinched, frayed, or disconnected wires leading to the seat switch.

   Ensure the seat switch hasn't been intentionally jumpered or bypassed by a previous operator, as the VCM will flag a continuous 'closed' state as a circuit fault over time.

   Disconnect the seat switch connector and use a digital multimeter to test the switch for continuity (should show closed circuit when weight is applied, and open circuit when empty).

   Turn the key ON and check the harness side of the connector for proper reference voltage coming from the VCM.

   Prepare machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access switch

   Tilt the seat forward or remove the bottom seat cushion (depending on the specific seat suspension package) to access the operator presence switch.

   Disconnect harness

   Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the seat switch.

   Remove switch

   Unclip or unbolt the faulty seat switch from the seat base mounting bracket.

   Install new switch

   Install the replacement seat switch into the bracket and secure it.

   Reconnect harness

   Reconnect the electrical wiring harness to the new switch, ensuring the connector clicks and locks into place.

   Reassemble seat

   Reinstall the seat cushion or return the seat to its normal operating position.

   Reconnect battery

   Reconnect the battery ground cable.

   Verify repair

   Start the tractor and sit in the seat to verify that the operator presence system functions correctly and that the 1504-02 VCM fault code changes to an inactive state or clears from the display.
