15102

Case IH 15102 – Steering Valve Controller: Steering valve controller is broadcasting more than 10 different fault codes

Issue description

There is an internal problem within the steering valve controller causing it to spam the CAN bus with excessive error messages. The off-road electrohydraulic steering mode is disabled, but the hydraulic on-road mode remains active.

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • Magnum
  • Steiger
  • Puma

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness and connectors at the steering valve controller for short circuits, open circuits, or voltage irregularities (e.g., 5-volt reference voltage too high/low)

  2. Verify that there are no metal filings in the hydraulic system or filters, which can physically jam the steering control valve or MCV

  3. Ensure the system is using the correct viscosity hydraulic fluid (e.g., Case IH Hy-Tran), as universal fluids can cause flow issues

  4. Verify the hydraulic flow and pressure into and out of the steering control valve against the specific model's manual

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port to read the freeze-frame data and confirm the internal failure of the steering valve controller.

  2. Disconnect power

Disconnect the battery or power off the machine before servicing the electrohydraulic system.

  3. Disconnect harness

Locate the steering valve controller assembly. Disconnect the CAN/electrical harness.

  4. Remove valve assembly

If the controller is integrated into the hydraulic steering valve block, cap the hydraulic lines to prevent contamination and remove the valve assembly.

  5. Install new controller

Install the new steering valve controller/assembly.

  6. Reconnect lines and harness

Reconnect the hydraulic lines (if applicable) and the electrical harness.

  7. Clear fault codes

Use the CNH EST or a DTC eraser tool to clear the stored fault codes from the network.

  8. Perform calibration

Perform a steering calibration procedure via the AFS Pro display or EST to initialize the new controller.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Electrohydraulic Steering Valve Controller / Auto Guidance Steering Valve Assembly

Must be ordered specific to the tractor's PIN/Serial Number, as CAN-bus controllers are often hardware-matched to the machine's specific AFS generation.
