Case IH 1512 – Universal Control Module (UCM) or Instrument Cluster (IC): Right Brake Light Shorted To Ground

The control module has detected that the electrical circuit supplying power to the right brake light has a path directly to the chassis ground. This triggers a 'white' master telltale warning lamp on the dash.

   Inspect the right rear tail light assembly for physical damage, water intrusion, or heavy corrosion.

   Remove the right brake light bulb and check if the bulb is internally shorted or if the plastic socket has melted.

   Disconnect the wiring harness connector at the right tail light and use a digital multimeter to check for continuity between the brake light power wire and the chassis ground to isolate the short.

   Trace the wiring harness from the right tail light back toward the UCM, looking closely at pinch points or places where the wire loom may have rubbed away.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental electrical spikes while working.

   Address the Short

   If the wiring is damaged: Cut out the chafed or pinched section of the wire, splice in a new section using marine-grade heat-shrink butt connectors, and wrap the repaired section in a protective split-wire loom. If the light assembly is faulty: Unbolt the damaged right tail light assembly, plug the machine's wiring harness into the new tail light assembly, and bolt it securely into place.

   Check Fuses

   Check the fuse panel and replace the brake light fuse if necessary, as a dead short to ground often blows the corresponding lighting circuit fuse.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and press the brake pedal. Verify that the right brake light illuminates and that fault code 1512 changes to an inactive state or clears from the instrument cluster.
