152

Case IH 152 – TMF (Tractor Multi-Function Controller): Electro Hydraulic Remote top link switch voltage is short circuit.

Issue description

The controller has detected a short circuit (either to ground or to another voltage source) on the electrical circuit that supplies voltage to or receives the signal from the Electro Hydraulic Remote (EHR) top link switch.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Magnum Series
  • MX Magnum
  • Magnum 180-270
  • Magnum 225-335
  • Magnum 250-380
  • TG Series
  • Puma Series
  • Puma 125

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the hydraulic top link switches on the rear fenders for physical damage, stuck buttons, or signs of water/debris intrusion.

  2. Trace and inspect the wiring harness from the fender switch back toward the cab and TMF module, looking for pinched wires, chafed insulation, or crushed conduits.

  3. Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to measure the voltage supply pin on the harness side (key ON) to ensure it receives 12V reference voltage without shorting to ground.

  4. Test the switch pins for continuity; continuity between power and ground pins while at rest indicates an internal short.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Access the Switch

Locate the faulty EHR top link switch on the rear fender.

  3. Disconnect and Remove

Unplug the wiring harness connector from the back of the switch. Depress the retaining tabs or remove the mounting screws to pop the switch out of the fender housing.

  4. Repair Wiring

If your diagnostic checks revealed a short in the wiring harness rather than the switch, locate the chafed wire. Cut out the damaged section, solder in a new piece of wire, and seal it with marine-grade heat shrink tubing.

  5. Install New Part

Push the new top link switch into the fender receptacle until it clicks into place. Reconnect the wiring harness, ensuring the weather-pack seal is seated correctly to prevent future water intrusion.

  6. Reassemble and Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition ON. Use the tractor's in-cab display monitor or a diagnostic tool (like the Case IH EST or Jaltest) to clear the inactive TMF 152 fault code.

  7. Test Operation

Press the top button to extend the cylinder and the bottom button to retract the cylinder to verify the repair.
