15201

Case IH 15201 – Advanced Steering Controller: Steering valve controller battery voltage too low.

Issue description

The system triggers this code when the voltage on the electronic steering valve input specifically at connector C361, pin 8 drops to less than 9 Volts.

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • Magnum series
  • AFS Connect Magnum 180-380
  • Puma
  • Maxxum
  • Vestrum
  • Farmall
  • Axial-Flow series
  • Axial-Flow 7250
  • Axial-Flow 8250
  • Axial-Flow 9250
  • Patriot series
  • Patriot 4430
  • Patriot 4440

Check the cause

  1. Verify overall battery health and alternator charging output to ensure the machine is producing adequate voltage globally.

  2. Disconnect connector C361 at the electronic steering valve controller and use a multimeter to measure the voltage at pin 8 with the key ON (must read 9 V or higher).

  3. Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the steering valve controller for chafing, pinch points, or melted insulation.

  4. Inspect connector C361 for water intrusion, pushed-out pins, or corrosion, and check the specific fuses and relays that supply power to the steering valve circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Power Supply Issues

If the voltage at C361 pin 8 is below 9 V, trace the circuit back to the power distribution box. Locate and repair any open circuits, high-resistance areas, or shorts to ground.

  2. Repair Wiring/Connectors

Clean any corrosion from connector C361 using electrical contact cleaner. If pin 8 is damaged or loose, replace the pin terminal or splice in a wiring harness repair pigtail.

  3. Replace Fuses/Relays

If a blown fuse or faulty relay is found during the diagnostic phase, replace it and re-test the voltage at the connector.

  4. Module Replacement

If the wiring, fuses, and power supply are all verified to be delivering 12V+ to the connector, but the code remains active when plugged in, the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) likely has an internal short or failure and must be replaced.

  5. Calibration

If the SVC or electronic steering valve is replaced, the new module will require software flashing and steering calibration via the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST).
