Case IH 15205 – Steering Valve Controller (SVC): Steering valve controller failure - Software program sequence monitoring failure

Issue description

This indicates an internal software logic error, crash, or glitch within the controller. The module's internal monitoring has detected that the software is not executing its programmed sequence correctly.

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • Case IH AFS Connect Magnum Tractors (Models 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380)
  • Case IH Vestrum CVX Series Tractors (Models 100, 110, 120, 130)
  • Case IH Farmall Tractors (Models 40, 45, 50)

Check the cause

  1. Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check for related voltage or communication codes (e.g., 15200, 15201, 15206) that can cause the software to crash or interrupt its sequence.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness, battery terminals, and ground connections leading to the Steering Valve Controller to rule out micro-drops in voltage.

  3. Connect the EST and verify the current software version on the SVC. Compare it against the latest available version in the CNH eTIM database.

Repair steps

  1. Power Cycle & Clear

Ensure the tractor has stable battery voltage. Clear the fault code using the EST and perform a full key-off/key-on power cycle to see if the software sequence resets and the code goes inactive.

  2. Software Reflash

If the code remains active, the primary repair for a 'software program sequence monitoring failure' is to reflash the Steering Valve Controller (SVC). Use the EST to update the SVC to the latest software version (e.g., version 2.02).

  3. Hardware Replacement

If the controller will not accept the software flash, or if fault code 15205 returns immediately after a successful update, the internal memory/processor of the Steering Valve Controller has physically failed and the module must be replaced.

  4. Calibration

If the SVC is replaced, install the new module, flash it with the correct dataset for the specific tractor configuration, and perform the Advanced Steering calibration procedure.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Steering Valve Controller (SVC)

Because this is a software-level failure, the physical hardware part number varies heavily depending on the exact tractor model and steering valve block installed. You must look up the physical SVC hardware part number in the CNH parts catalog using the specific machine's Product Identification Number (P.I.N.).

  • Software version 2.02 for AFS Connect Magnum

    51631896
  • Advanced Steering Configuration controller dataset

    51573865
