15208

Case IH 15208 – Steering Valve Controller (SVC) / Steering Redundant Controller (SRC): Steering valve controller failure - Software interpolation overflow or underflow or incorrect data.

Issue description

A software calculation error within the steering system's logic. An interpolation overflow or underflow means the software attempted to calculate a value that exceeded the maximum or minimum limits of its programmed memory allocation, or it received corrupted/incorrect data from a sensor that caused the calculation to fail.

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • AFS Connect Magnum Series: 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380
  • Vestrum CVX Series: 100, 110, 120, 130
  • Maxxum Series
  • Optum Series: 250, 270, 300
  • Terrus Series: 6250, 6270, 6300

Check the cause

  1. Voltage & Ground Verification: Check the battery voltage and ground connections to the Steering Valve Controller. Voltage spikes or drops can corrupt data processing (related codes 15200 and 15201 indicate voltage issues).

  2. CAN Bus Inspection: Verify the CAN bus communication lines for interference, offline status, or duplicate source addresses, which can feed incorrect data to the controller.

  3. Sensor Data Crosscheck: Check the live data for the steering sensors (such as the LVDT and wheel angle sensors). If a sensor is feeding wildly out-of-range data, it can cause the software interpolation to overflow.

  4. Software Version Check: Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and check the current software version on the SVC and SRC.

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Connect the CNH EST to the tractor's diagnostic port and pull all active and stored codes in the Advanced Steering module.

  2. Re-flash / Update Software

Because the fault explicitly calls out a 'Software interpolation' failure, the primary OEM fix is to update or re-flash the software on the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) and Steering Redundant Controller (SRC).

  3. Load Configuration Dataset

Ensure the correct Advanced Steering Configuration dataset is loaded for the specific tractor model.

  4. Perform Steering Calibration

After flashing, perform a full Advanced Steering calibration procedure. This ensures all steering sensors establish correct baseline values so the software does not receive 'incorrect data' during operation.

  5. Clear and Test

Clear the fault code stack. Test drive the tractor, utilizing the auto-guidance/advanced steering features to verify the code does not return.

  6. Hardware Replacement (If Necessary)

If the software flash fails, or if the code immediately returns indicating the controller's RAM/processor is permanently corrupted, the physical Steering Valve Controller unit must be replaced.
