Case IH 15209 - AST – Steering Valve Controller (SVC): Steering valve controller failure - Software I2C communication failure

Internal communication breakdown on the I2C (Inter-Integrated Circuit) bus within the steering controller's microprocessors, or a software crash has interrupted internal data transfer.

   Power cycle the tractor to see if the software communication error clears by rebooting the controller

   Check battery voltage and ground connections directly at the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) harness for low voltage, spikes, or poor grounds

   Connect the dealer Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify the current software version on the SVC and check for available updates

   Verify fault code

   Verify the fault code 15209 is active using the instrument cluster H-menus (navigate to the R1 module, menu H3, and select the AST system) or the EST.

   Inspect wiring harness

   Inspect the wiring harness to the Steering Valve Controller for any signs of chafing, corrosion, or loose pins that could cause power interruptions. Repair any harness issues found.

   Update software

   If power and ground are stable, use the EST to reflash/update the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) and the Steering Redundant Controller (SRC) with the latest software.

   Evaluate hardware failure

   If the software update fails, or if the code returns immediately after flashing, the internal hardware of the controller has failed.

   Replace controller

   Replace the Steering Valve Controller assembly.

   Upload dataset and calibrate

   After replacement, use the EST to upload the Advanced Steering Configuration dataset to the new module and perform the steering system calibration.
