15213

Case IH 15213 – Steering Valve Controller (SVC) / Steering Redundant Controller (SRC): Steering valve controller failure - Coil supply switch state synchronization between main and safety controllers failed.

Issue description

There is an internal logic mismatch within the steering control module. The main microcontroller and redundant safety microcontroller fail to synchronize or agree on the state of the coil supply switch (which powers the steering hydraulic valves), triggering this fault to prevent erratic or unsafe steering behavior.

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • Farmall Series 40, 45, 50, and 115U Efficient Power Tractors
  • Quantum Series F, N, V, CL Series (Models 80, 90, 100, 110)
  • Vestrum Series ActiveDrive8 and CVX Series (Models 100, 110, 120, 130)
  • AFS Connect Magnum Series Models 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, and 380

Check the cause

  1. Check system voltage: Verify that the tractor's battery voltage is steady and the alternator is charging correctly. Low or fluctuating voltage can cause microcontrollers to lose synchronization.

  2. Inspect wiring and connectors: Locate the Steering Valve Controller (SVC). Disconnect the harness and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or bent terminals.

  3. Test power and ground: Use a multimeter to verify that the SVC is receiving proper, uninterrupted power and a solid ground.

  4. Check for software updates: Check with a Case IH dealer to see if a software update is available for your specific machine before replacing any hard parts.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Clean Connections

If any corrosion or moisture was found during the diagnostic checks, clean the SVC harness connectors with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.

  3. Re-flash the Controller (Dealer Level)

Reconnect the battery. If the wiring is sound but the code persists, the SVC must be re-flashed. A dealer will need to connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and update the SVC/SRC software (e.g., updating to SVC software version 2.02).

  4. Replace the Controller

If the software update does not clear the fault, the internal circuitry of the Steering Valve Controller has failed. Remove the mounting bolts and hydraulic/electrical connections to the old steering valve controller and install the new unit.

  5. Calibrate

After installing a new SVC, you must use the dealer diagnostic tool to perform a steering valve calibration and write the Advanced Steering Configuration dataset to the new module.

Parts you might need
