15215 - AST

Case IH 15215 - AST – AST (Advanced Steering / Auto Guidance) / PVED-CLS: Steering valve controller failure - coil supply switch self-test failed

Issue description

This fault code indicates an internal hardware or safety-check failure within the electro-hydraulic steering valve controller. The controller performs an internal self-test on the coil supply switch before enabling auto-guidance. If this self-test fails, the system prevents the auto-steering from engaging to ensure the machine does not make uncommanded steering movements.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Steiger
  • Quadtrac (350, 370, 500, 550, 580, 600, 620)
  • Magnum
  • Puma
  • Axial-Flow (7230, 8230, 9230, 250 series)

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors going to the PVED-CLS steering valve actuator for damaged wires, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.

  2. Verify that the PVED-CLS module is receiving stable and correct system voltage (12V) and has a clean ground connection, as a severe voltage drop can trigger false internal switch failures.

  3. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or Danfoss PLUS+1 Service Tool to check the off-road safety check status and verify if the fault is active or stored.

  4. If the wiring, power, and CAN communication are fully intact and the code remains active, the internal coil supply switch has failed and the PVED-CLS module must be replaced.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the machine on a level surface, turn off the engine, relieve hydraulic pressure by turning the steering wheel back and forth, and disconnect the battery.

  2. Disconnect

Locate the steering valve assembly. Disconnect the main electrical harness connector from the PVED-CLS module.

  3. Removal

Remove the mounting screws securing the black PVED-CLS electronic module to the hydraulic steering valve body. Carefully lift the module off the valve.

  4. Installation

Ensure the mating surface on the valve body is clean. Install the new PVED-CLS module and tighten the mounting screws to the OEM torque specification.

  5. Reconnection

Reconnect the electrical harness to the module and reconnect the machine's battery.

  6. Programming & Calibration

Use the Case IH EST (or Danfoss PLUS+1 Service Tool) to flash the correct firmware for your specific machine, load the machine-specific hydraulic configuration parameters, and perform the Auto Steering Calibration Mode.
