Case IH 15216 - AST – Steering Valve Controller (SVC): Steering valve controller failure - EEPROM write failed
Issue description
This fault indicates that the controller's internal non-volatile memory (EEPROM) failed to successfully write or save data. This typically happens due to an internal hardware failure of the memory chip inside the controller, a software glitch, or a severe voltage drop/power interruption exactly when the controller was attempting to save calibration or operational data.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- AFS Connect Magnum (Models 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380)
- Maxxum Series
- Puma Series
- Optum Series
- Vestrum CVX Series (Models 100, 110, 120, 130)
Check the cause
Verify battery health and alternator output to rule out a severe voltage drop during a key-off cycle or operation that could interrupt an EEPROM write process.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the Steering Valve Controller for corrosion, moisture intrusion, or loose pins that could cause intermittent power loss.
Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the fault code. Cycle the key off, wait for the modules to power down completely, and turn the key back on to see if the code returns.
Check the EST for any available software updates for the Steering Valve Controller. Attempting to re-flash the controller can sometimes recover corrupted memory sectors.
Repair steps
Power Down
Park the machine on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate the SVC
Locate the Steering Valve Controller, which is typically mounted directly to or adjacent to the hydraulic steering valve block.
Disconnect
Carefully unplug the electrical harness connectors from the controller. Cap the harness ends to prevent dirt ingress.
Remove
Unbolt the mounting hardware securing the Steering Valve Controller and remove the faulty unit.
Install
Mount the new Steering Valve Controller and torque the bolts to the OEM specification for your specific tractor model.
Reconnect
Reconnect the electrical harnesses and the negative battery cable.
Programming & Calibration
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST). You must flash the controller with the correct software payload for your machine's PIN.
AST Calibration
Navigate to the AST steering system menu in the EST (or via the H-menus on the instrument cluster, depending on the model) and perform the mandatory AST Steering Calibration procedure.
Verify
Clear any residual fault codes and test the auto-guidance/steering system in the field to confirm the repair.
