Case IH 15221 – Steering Valve Controller: Redundant wheel/articulation angle sensor voltage too high

The electronic steering valve controller has detected that the signal voltage from the redundant wheel or articulation angle sensor has exceeded the maximum normal operating threshold of 4.9 Volts.

   Inspect the mechanical linkage of the steering cylinder or articulation joint for binding, damage, or loose hardware

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the redundant wheel/articulation angle sensor for chafing, cuts, or disconnected plugs

   Check the sensor ground wire for an open circuit (which causes the signal voltage to float high to 5V)

   Check the signal wire for a short to the 5V reference or 12V battery power

   Verify that the controller is supplying the correct 5V reference to the sensor

   Park the machine on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery power to ensure electrical safety.

   Locate the redundant wheel/articulation angle sensor on the steering axle or articulation joint.

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the sensor.

   If the diagnostic checks revealed an open ground or shorted signal wire in the harness, repair the damaged wiring.

   If the wiring is intact and the sensor is deemed faulty, remove the mounting hardware and linkage arm attached to the sensor.

   Remove the old sensor and install the replacement angle sensor, ensuring any O-rings or retaining rings are properly seated.

   Reattach the mechanical linkage and secure the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect the electrical harness and the machine's battery.

   Perform an Articulation Angle Sensor Calibration or Wheel Angle Sensor Calibration.

   This is done by placing the machine's monitoring system / display module into calibration mode so the ECM can relearn the neutral, left, and right steering duty cycles.

    Clear the fault code and test the steering system.
