Case IH 15227 – Steering Valve Controller / Vehicle Controller (CCM) or Engine Control Module (MR / PLD): Cut-off solenoid supply voltage too low / Unit pump for cylinder 3: Actuation fault
Issue description
Indicates either the voltage supplied to the steering/vehicle cut-off solenoid has dropped below the acceptable operating threshold, or a mechanical/electrical failure in the unit pump/injector solenoid for cylinder 3 is preventing proper fuel delivery.

Check the cause
[Cut-off Solenoid] Check the battery and overall system voltage to ensure it is within the normal operating range (usually 12V or 24V depending on the machine).
[Cut-off Solenoid] Inspect the wiring harness between the steering valve controller and the cut-off solenoid for open circuits, high resistance, chafing, or shorts to ground.
[Cut-off Solenoid] Check the steering valve controller's 5V reference supply to ensure the controller itself is not under-voltaging.
[Unit Pump] Check the electrical screw connections of the affected injector valve for short circuits or loose connections.
[Unit Pump] Disconnect the electrical screw connections of the affected injector valve and test the harness for continuity.
Repair steps
Disconnect battery
[Cut-off Solenoid] Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Locate solenoid
[Cut-off Solenoid] Locate the cut-off solenoid on the steering valve block or fuel injection pump (depending on exact machine configuration).
Disconnect harness
[Cut-off Solenoid] Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the solenoid.
Check wiring harness
[Cut-off Solenoid] Using a digital multimeter, check the continuity and resistance of the wiring harness back to the controller. Repair or splice any chafed or broken wires.
Test solenoid coil
[Cut-off Solenoid] Test the solenoid coil resistance. If it is out of OEM specification (open or shorted), remove the retaining hardware and replace the cut-off solenoid.
Reconnect and test
[Cut-off Solenoid] Reconnect the harness, restore battery power, and clear the fault codes. Test the system for proper operation.
Locate unit pump
[Unit Pump] Locate the unit pump/injector for cylinder 3.
Inspect connections
[Unit Pump] Inspect, clean, and tighten the electrical connections.
Replace unit pump
[Unit Pump] If the wiring is intact but the fault persists, replace the unit pump/injector.
Reset engine-smoothness control
[Unit Pump] Upon removing mechanical or electrical faults at the injector valves, the engine-smoothness control must be reset to zero using a diagnostic scan tool.
