Case IH 15244 - AST – Steering Valve Controller (SVC): Incorrect steering valve controller configuration - Auxiliary steering device enabled - NO boot up timeout
Issue description
A configuration mismatch or communication failure during the system's startup sequence. The system software is configured with the auxiliary steering device (AST) enabled, but the controller is failing to boot up within the expected timeframe (timeout), which can be caused by missing hardware, a CAN bus communication error, or an incorrect software dataset.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Farmall 40
- Farmall 45
- Farmall 50
- Vestrum CVX Series
- AFS Connect Magnum Tractors
Check the cause
Access On-Board Diagnostics by navigating the 'HH' menus to the R1 module, menu H3, and select the AST system to view live controller statuses.
Inspect the main diagnostic connector and verify the integrity of the CAN bus lines on Pin C (CAN 1 HI - Main Bus 250 kbps) and Pin D (CAN 1 LO - Main Bus 250 kbps) to ensure the steering controller is communicating.
Verify the software configuration dataset to ensure the controller is not configured for an auxiliary steering device if one is not physically installed on the machine.
Repair steps
Connect the Case IH service tool/switch to the diagnostic port to access the vehicle software.
Access the vehicle software using the diagnostic port.
Navigate to the AST control subsystem to review the current configuration parameters.
Review the current configuration parameters in the AST control subsystem.
If the tractor is not equipped with an auxiliary steering device, correct the configuration by disabling the auxiliary steering feature in the software.
Disable the auxiliary steering feature if the hardware is not physically installed.
If the tractor is equipped with the device, re-flash the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) and Steering Redundant Controller (SRC) with the latest software version (e.g., software version 2.02) to resolve the boot-up timeout glitch.
Update the software to the latest version to resolve the timeout glitch.
Check the physical wiring harness connecting the AST controller to the main CAN bus. Repair any open or shorted wires that could be causing the boot-up timeout.
Inspect and repair the wiring harness connecting the AST controller to the main CAN bus.
If the software is correct, the wiring is intact, and the controller still fails to boot up, replace the Steering Valve Controller.
Replace the Steering Valve Controller if it has suffered an internal hardware failure.
