Case IH 15245 – Steering Valve Controller (SVC): Incorrect steering valve controller configuration - Auxiliary steering device enabled - message lost.
Issue description
The steering controller is programmed with a configuration that expects an auxiliary steering device (such as a secondary steering module, joystick, or GPS auto-guidance system) to be present and communicating on the CAN bus, but the controller has lost the communication message from this auxiliary device.

Check the cause
Verify Machine Build: Determine if the tractor is physically equipped with an auxiliary steering device. If not, the controller has been incorrectly configured.
CAN Bus Communication Check: If the tractor does have an auxiliary steering device, check the CAN bus communication lines between the auxiliary steering module and the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) for open circuits, high resistance, or shorts.
Power and Ground Check: Verify that the auxiliary steering device is receiving proper voltage and has a solid ground connection, as a powered-down module will cause a message lost state.
Software Version Check: Verify the software versions and configuration datasets loaded into the SVC using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST).
Repair steps
Connect diagnostic tool
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.
View configuration
Navigate to the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) module and view the current configuration settings.
Reconfigure SVC
If the tractor does NOT have auxiliary steering: Reconfigure the SVC to disable the 'Auxiliary steering device enabled' parameter. Flash the correct Advanced Steering Configuration dataset for the specific tractor build.
Inspect and repair wiring or replace module
If the tractor DOES have auxiliary steering: Inspect the wiring harness connecting the auxiliary steering device to the main CAN bus. Repair any damaged wires, corroded pins, or loose connectors. If the wiring is intact and power/ground are verified, the auxiliary steering module itself may have failed and stopped broadcasting messages. Replace the faulty module.
Clear fault codes
After correcting the configuration or repairing the communication loss, clear the fault codes via the EST.
Test steering function
Cycle the key power and perform a steering function test to ensure code 15245 does not return.
