Case IH 15246 – Steering Valve Controller (SVC): Incorrect steering valve controller configuration - Auxiliary steering device enabled - NO invalid CRC or message sequence.
Issue description
Indicates a software configuration mismatch or a CAN bus data error. The controller is configured to expect an auxiliary steering device (such as an auto-guidance system or secondary steering input), but the data messages being received have an invalid Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) or an incorrect message sequence, meaning the controller cannot properly validate the communication.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- Steiger T4B
- Case IH AFS Connect Magnum Tractors (Models 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380)
- Case IH Vestrum CVX Series Tractors (Models 100, 110, 120, 130)
Check the cause
Verify if the tractor is physically equipped with an auxiliary steering device (e.g., AccuGuide, EZ-Steer). If not, the controller is incorrectly configured.
Check CAN 1 Main Bus connections at the diagnostic connector (Pin C for CAN 1 HI, Pin D for CAN 1 LO) and at the steering controller harness for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins.
Check for accompanying codes that might indicate a hard communication failure, such as 15244 (boot up timeout) or 15245 (message lost).
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Tool
Connect the electronic service tool to the tractor's diagnostic port to access the Steering Valve Controller (SVC).
Verify Configuration
Navigate to the steering configuration menu. If the tractor does not have an auxiliary steering device, disable the "Auxiliary steering device enabled" setting. If it does have one, ensure the correct valve type (e.g., PWM) and parameters are selected.
Update Software/Dataset
If the configuration is correct but the CRC error persists, re-flash the Steering Valve Controller with the latest software version (e.g., SVC software version 2.02) and the Advanced Steering Configuration dataset.
Perform Steering Valve Calibration
Once configured, warm the hydraulic oil to operating temperature and perform a Steering Valve Calibration via the display (e.g., Pro 700 / Pro 1200).
Perform Roll & Wheel Calibrations
If equipped with Auto Guidance, perform a rear wheel position calibration (ensure the steering cylinder rod length is within ¼" on both sides) and a roll calibration on a flat 400-foot path at 6 mph.
Clear Codes
Clear the fault memory and cycle the key to ensure code 15246 does not return.
