15262 - AST

Case IH 15262 - AST – Steering Valve Controller (SVC) / Advanced Steering Configuration controller (AST): Synchronization between steering valve main and safety controllers failed during the cut-off solenoid test. Cut-off solenoid stuck open.

Issue description

During a spool movement test (specifically at the transition from on-road to off-road operation), the system detected that the steering cut-off solenoid was mechanically or electrically stuck in the open position, causing a synchronization failure between the main steering controller and the redundant safety controller.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Farmall 40, 45, and 50
  • AFS Connect Magnum 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380
  • Vestrum CVX 100, 110, 120, 130

Check the cause

  1. Perform a spool movement test by transitioning the tractor from on-road to off-road mode to see if the failure actively repeats.

  2. Inspect the steering valve block and the cut-off solenoid to determine if the solenoid is mechanically stuck open due to debris or hydraulic contamination.

  3. Check the electrical connections and wiring harness between the Steering Valve Controller (main) and the Steering Redundant Controller (safety) for shorts, corrosion, or open circuits.

  4. Verify the software versions on the Steering Valve Controller to ensure the main and safety controllers are running compatible datasets.

Repair steps

  1. Connect the Case IH diagnostic tool to the machine's diagnostic port to verify code 15262 is active in the Steering Valve Controller (SVC).

Verify code 15262 is active in the Steering Valve Controller (SVC).

  2. Locate the steering valve block and identify the cut-off solenoid.

Identify the cut-off solenoid on the steering valve block.

  3. Disconnect the electrical connector to the cut-off solenoid and test the circuit for proper voltage and ground.

Test the circuit for proper voltage and ground.

  4. Remove the cut-off solenoid from the valve block. Inspect the spool for scoring, binding, or debris that would cause it to stick open.

Inspect the spool for scoring, binding, or debris.

  5. Clean the valve spool and block. If the solenoid is internally shorted or mechanically seized, replace the cut-off solenoid.

Replace the cut-off solenoid if it is internally shorted or mechanically seized.

  6. Reinstall the solenoid, bleed the steering hydraulic system if necessary, and reconnect the wiring harness.

Bleed the steering hydraulic system if necessary and reconnect the wiring harness.

  7. Clear the fault codes using the diagnostic tool.

Use the diagnostic tool to clear the fault codes.

  8. Perform a test drive, specifically transitioning the tractor from on-road to off-road operation, to force the spool movement test and verify that the main and safety controllers successfully synchronize.

Force the spool movement test and verify that the main and safety controllers successfully synchronize.
