Case IH 15269 – Steering Valve Controller (SVC) / Steering Redundant Controller (SRC): Steering valve controller failure - Software detected SPI communication lost
Issue description
Internal communication failure within the controller where the main and safety microcontrollers inside the steering valve controller have lost the ability to communicate with each other, triggering a safety fault.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Steiger T4B
- Case IH AFS Connect Magnum Tractors (Models 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380) - Tier 4B and Stage V
- Case IH Vestrum CVX Series Tractors (Models 100, 110, 120, 130)
- Case IH Farmall Tractors (40, 45, 50, 115U) with Cab and CVT Transmission
Check the cause
Check for accompanying crosscheck faults (such as 15270, 15272, or 15273) to confirm if the internal processors are out of sync
Inspect the main wiring harness connecting to the Steering Valve Controller for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture ingress
Verify the power supply and ground circuits to the SVC under load to ensure low voltage is not causing the internal SPI bus to crash
Verify the current software version on the SVC to rule out software glitches causing false SPI communication loss flags
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to ensure the system is safe to work on.
Harness Maintenance
Disconnect the harness from the Steering Valve Controller. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.
Re-test
Reconnect the battery, power up the machine, and use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the fault codes. Cycle the steering wheel and perform a test drive.
Software Flash
If the code returns immediately, attempt to reflash the Steering Valve Controller with the latest software version using the EST.
Module Replacement
If the software flash fails or the code persists, the internal SPI bus on the controller's circuit board has physically failed. Remove the mounting hardware and hydraulic connections (if integrated) to remove the faulty Steering Valve Controller.
Installation and Calibration
Install the new Steering Valve Controller. You must use the EST to push the correct software dataset to the new module and perform the steering angle and flow command calibration procedures before returning the tractor to service.
