Case IH 15274 - AST – AST: Auxiliary steering device Steering angle crosscheck - incorrect steering valve

The system's main steering controller and the redundant safety controller are receiving conflicting position data. The crosscheck between the steering wheel angle sensor and the steering valve (Orbitrol) has failed, indicating that the physical steering angle does not match the commanded or expected position, triggering a safety lockout of the auto-guidance/auxiliary steering system.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the steering wheel angle sensor, the steering valve, and the AST controller for broken wires, corrosion, or backed-out pins

   Check the steering wheel angle sensor for physical damage, loose mounting hardware, or excessive play

   Ensure there are no internal leaks or stuck spools in the steering priority valve/Orbitrol that could cause the steering to drift mechanically without sensor input

   Attempt an AST Steering Calibration using the tractor's H-menu or the Electronic Service Tool (EST) before replacing hard parts

   Calibrate the AST System

   Enter the H-menu on the instrument cluster or connect the EST diagnostic tool. Navigate to the AST module and run the steering calibration procedure. If the calibration completes successfully and the code clears, return the tractor to service.

   Replace the Steering Angle Sensor

   If the calibration fails or the sensor data is erratic, power down the machine and replace the steering angle/position sensor located on the steering column or axle (depending on the exact model configuration).

   Replace the Steering Valve

   If the sensor and wiring are confirmed good but the crosscheck still fails, the internal main/safety controllers within the electronic steering valve assembly have failed. Remove the hydraulic lines (cap them to prevent contamination), unbolt the steering valve, and install a replacement unit.

   Final Calibration

   Anytime the steering sensor or steering valve is replaced, you must perform a full AST steering calibration for the new components to sync with the main and safety controllers.
