Case IH 15277 – Steering Valve Controller: Steering control message crosscheck between the steering valve main and safety controllers failed.
Issue description
This fault code triggers when the Main and Safety internal microprocessors in the Danfoss PVED-CLS controller disagree on steering control messages, flow commands, or if there is an internal communication failure between them. This often happens if the gain parameters are not equal in the Main and Safety controllers, or if there is a severe internal hardware failure.

Check the cause
Bleed the steering system by turning the steering wheel fully left and fully right a minimum of 10 times to ensure no air is causing erratic valve behavior.
Connect the Case IH diagnostic tool (AFS Pro display or Autopilot Toolbox) and verify that the gain parameters are equal in both the Main and Safety controllers.
Inspect the CAN bus communication wiring and the DC power supply (12V/24V) to the PVED-CLS controller for intermittent power drops.
Check for accompanying codes such as 15278 (Spool position crosscheck failed) or 15279 (Steering wheel sensor speed crosscheck failed) to isolate sensor input issues.
Repair steps
Recalibrate the Steering System
If the diagnostic check reveals a parameter mismatch, perform an Auto Steering Calibration. Danfoss recommends performing this calibration on an on-road surface (unpainted concrete or asphalt).
Depressurize the System
If calibration fails or the code returns immediately (indicating a severe internal failure of the PVED-CLS controller), the steering valve assembly must be replaced. Turn off the machine and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the steering system.
Disconnect Electricals
Disconnect the CAN bus and power harnesses from the PVED-CLS controller on the steering valve.
Remove the Valve
Mark and disconnect the hydraulic lines attached to the steering control valve. Unbolt the valve assembly from its mounting bracket.
Install the New Valve
Mount the replacement steering valve assembly. Reconnect the hydraulic lines and electrical connectors.
Bleed the Hydraulics
Start the machine and bleed the steering system by turning the steering wheel lock-to-lock at least 10 times until no abnormal noise or vibration occurs.
Flash and Calibrate
Use the diagnostic tool to flash the correct tractor-specific software to the new PVED-CLS controller and perform a full Auto Steering Calibration routine.
