Case IH 15280 - AST – Steering Valve Controller (AST): Incorrect steering valve controller configuration - CAN wheel angle sensor device enabled - boot up timeout

The steering valve controller is programmed to expect data from a CAN-based wheel angle sensor, but it did not receive the expected boot-up message from the sensor within the required timeframe (timeout). This typically points to a missing sensor, a severed CAN bus connection, a lack of power to the sensor, or an incorrect software configuration where the sensor is enabled but not physically installed.

   Verify that the steering valve controller configuration parameters correctly match the installed hardware (disable if no sensor is physically installed)

   Check the power supply and ground circuits to the wheel angle sensor

   Check the CAN bus connection to the wheel angle sensor for continuity

   If communication is intermittent, verify that the un-clamped CAN Wheel angle sensor signal does not exceed the internal resolution range: (-1000 – P3390 [IR]) < signal < (1000 + P3390 [IR])

   Access Diagnostics

   Enter the diagnostic mode by navigating the "H" menus using the switches on the instrument cluster. Navigate to the R1 module, menu H3, and select the AST system to view active states.

   Inspect Wiring

   Physically inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the CAN wheel angle sensor and the PVED-CLS steering valve controller. Look for open circuits, shorts, or disconnected pins.

   Test Voltage

   Test the power and ground pins at the sensor connector to ensure the sensor is receiving the voltage required to boot up.

   Reconfigure (If Applicable)

   If the machine is not equipped with a CAN wheel angle sensor, use the service tool (via the KWP2000 protocol) to modify the configuration parameters and disable the device in the controller.

   Replace Sensor

   If the wiring and power are intact, the configuration is correct, but the boot-up timeout persists, the CAN wheel angle sensor has internally failed and must be replaced.

   Recalibrate

   If a new sensor is installed, perform the wheel angle sensor calibration procedure via the service mode.
