Case IH 15280 – Steering Valve Controller (SVC): Incorrect steering valve controller configuration - CAN wheel angle sensor device enabled - boot up timeout

This indicates a communication failure at startup. The system's Steering Valve Controller (SVC) is configured to expect data from a CAN-bus-based wheel angle sensor. However, during the boot-up sequence, the controller timed out because it did not receive the expected CAN messages or handshake from the sensor.

   Verify configuration: Check if the tractor is actually equipped with a CAN-based wheel angle sensor rather than an analog sensor.

   Inspect CAN bus wiring harness between the Steering Valve Controller and the Wheel Angle Sensor for chafed wires, corrosion, or backed-out pins.

   Check power and ground: Ensure the wheel angle sensor is receiving proper voltage and has a solid ground at startup.

   Check for related companion codes (e.g., 15281, 15282, or 15283) that might indicate a broader CAN bus issue.

   Resolve Wiring Issues

   If the diagnostic checks reveal an open circuit, short, or poor connection on the CAN High or CAN Low lines, repair the harness or replace the damaged connector.

   Reconfigure the Controller

   If the tractor does not have a CAN wheel angle sensor, use the Case IH diagnostic tool (EST) to access the Steering Valve Controller configuration and change the sensor type to match the installed hardware.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the wiring is intact, the configuration is correct, and the sensor has power/ground but still fails to communicate at boot-up, the CAN wheel angle sensor has failed internally and must be replaced.
