Case IH 15281 – Steering Valve Controller (SVC): Incorrect steering valve controller configuration - CAN wheel angle sensor device enabled
Issue description
The controller is configured to expect data from a CAN-based wheel angle sensor, but it is either not receiving the expected CAN messages (message lost) or the machine is not physically equipped with this sensor, resulting in a configuration mismatch.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Steiger T4B
- Case IH Magnum AFS Connect
- Case IH Vestrum CVX Series
- Case IH Farmall
- Case IH Maxxum
Check the cause
Inspect the steering axle to verify if the tractor is actually equipped with a CAN wheel angle sensor.
Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check the current configuration parameters of the Steering Valve Controller (SVC).
If the sensor is present, check the CAN bus communication lines between the wheel angle sensor and the SVC for open circuits, short circuits, or excessive resistance that could cause a message lost condition.
Check the software version of the Steering Valve Controller to ensure it is up to date.
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Tool
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.
Access SVC Configuration
Navigate to the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) module and open the configuration settings.
Correct the Configuration
If the tractor does not have a CAN wheel angle sensor installed, locate the 'CAN wheel angle sensor device' setting. Change it from 'Enabled' to 'Disabled'. Save the configuration.
Inspect Wiring
If the tractor does have the sensor, inspect the wiring harness from the sensor to the SVC. Repair any damaged wires or corroded connector pins causing the CAN message loss.
Replace Sensor
If the wiring is intact and the configuration is correct, the CAN wheel angle sensor has likely failed internally and is no longer broadcasting on the CAN bus. Replace the sensor.
Clear and Verify
Clear the 15281 fault code, cycle the ignition key, and turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock to verify the code does not return.
