Case IH 15282 – MTA CCM & APH Stage V MR / PVED-CLS Steering Valve Controller: Incorrect steering valve controller configuration - CAN wheel angle sensor device enabled - invalid CRC or message sequence

The steering valve controller is configured to expect data from a CAN-based wheel angle sensor, but the data messages being received over the CAN bus have an invalid Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) or are arriving in an incorrect message sequence.

   Check for related CAN wheel angle sensor codes, such as 15280 (boot up timeout), 15281 (message lost), or 15283 (invalid position value).

   Verify that the un-clamped CAN Wheel angle sensor signal does not exceed the internal resolution range of ±1000 IR (Internal Resolution).

   Ensure the 250K CAN bus is not overloaded by other nodes and check the physical wiring harness for the wheel angle sensor for damage or loose pins that could cause data corruption (invalid CRC).

   Verify that only one of the three auxiliary steering devices is configured per steering system, as conflicting configurations can trigger this fault.

   Inspect the Harness

   Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the CAN wheel angle sensor and the PVED-CLS steering valve controller. Look for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins that could corrupt the CAN signal.

   Access Controller Configuration

   Connect a diagnostic tool to the machine to access the PVED-CLS controller software (communication and parameter modification is provided through the KWP2000 protocol).

   Verify Parameters

   Ensure the steering valve controller configuration parameters match the physical hardware installed on the machine (e.g., verify the CAN wheel angle sensor is properly enabled and mapped).

   Replace Sensor

   If the wiring and configuration are correct but the sensor continues to broadcast invalid CRC messages, the CAN wheel angle sensor itself has likely failed internally and must be replaced.

   Recalibrate

   After replacing the sensor, perform a steering system calibration to reset the wheel angle limits and offsets.
