Case IH 15283 - AST – MTA CCM / APH / Steering Valve Controller: Incorrect steering valve controller configuration - CAN wheel angle sensor device enabled - invalid position value.

Configuration or signal mismatch within the auto-guidance/auxiliary steering system. The steering valve controller is configured to expect a CAN wheel angle sensor, but the sensor is either outputting an invalid position value, or there is a configuration mismatch between the main and safety controllers regarding the sensor's presence.

   Verify if the tractor is actually equipped with a CAN wheel angle sensor to rule out a configuration error.

   Check for accompanying CAN communication faults (such as 15280, 15281, or 15282) which indicate a wiring or network failure rather than a sensor position failure.

   Physically inspect the CAN wheel angle sensor linkage for damage, bending, or disconnection.

   Check the sensor's wiring harness and connector for corrosion or pushed pins.

   Using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST), monitor the un-clamped CAN Wheel Angle Sensor (CAN WAS) signal to ensure it does not exceed the internal resolution range of (-1000 – P3390) to (1000 + P3390).

   Connect Diagnostic Tool

   Connect the CNH EST to the tractor's diagnostic port.

   Check/Correct Configuration

   Navigate to the steering valve controller configuration. If the tractor does not have a CAN wheel angle sensor, change the configuration to disable the device.

   Repair Wiring/Linkage

   If the sensor is present and configured correctly but giving invalid values, repair any damaged wiring or replace bent physical linkage.

   Replace Sensor

   If the wiring and linkage are intact but the sensor continues to output an invalid position value (out of range), the internal potentiometer/hall-effect sensor is likely failed. Replace the CAN wheel angle sensor.

   Calibrate

   After replacing the sensor or correcting the linkage, you MUST perform the wheel angle sensor calibration procedure using the EST so the controller learns the new center, left, and right limits.

   Clear and Test

   Clear the fault codes, cycle the key, and test the auto-steering system to ensure the code does not return.
