Case IH 15285 – Steering Valve Controller (SVC): Auxiliary steering device Steering angle velocity crosscheck - incorrect steering valve controller configuration

Issue description

The steering valve controller is configured to operate with an auxiliary steering device, but the system's steering angle velocity crosscheck has failed due to an incorrect software configuration parameter, dataset, or calibration value within the controller.

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • AFS Connect Magnum Series 180
  • AFS Connect Magnum Series 200
  • AFS Connect Magnum Series 220
  • AFS Connect Magnum Series 240
  • AFS Connect Magnum Series 250
  • AFS Connect Magnum Series 280
  • AFS Connect Magnum Series 310
  • AFS Connect Magnum Series 340
  • AFS Connect Magnum Series 380
  • Vestrum CVX Series 100
  • Vestrum CVX Series 110
  • Vestrum CVX Series 120
  • Vestrum CVX Series 130
  • Puma Series
  • Optum Series
  • Steiger Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify Software Versions: Check the software version of the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) to ensure it has the required version (e.g., 2.02) and Advanced Steering Configuration datasets.

  2. Check Valve Configuration Settings: Access the guidance display (e.g., Viper 4, AFS Pro) and verify the Valve Type (e.g., PWM) and Valve Calibration settings.

  3. Inspect CAN Communication: Check for related soft errors or CAN timeouts (codes 15280 through 15284) which indicate CAN wheel angle sensor device timeouts, message losses, or invalid position values.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the Case IH electronic service tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Access configuration menu

Access the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) configuration menu.

  3. Review configuration parameters

Review the current configuration parameters for the auxiliary steering device. Ensure the settings match the installed hardware (e.g., factory AFS, Raven, or Trimble steering valves).

  4. Reflash controller

If the configuration is incorrect or corrupted, reflash the Steering Valve Controller with the correct Advanced Steering Configuration dataset.

  5. Perform calibrations

Perform a complete Wheel Angle Sensor (WAS) calibration and steering valve calibration procedure to reset the steering angle velocity crosscheck baseline.

  6. Clear fault code

    Clear fault code 15285.

  7. Test drive

Test drive the tractor using the auxiliary steering/auto-guidance system to ensure the steering angle velocity crosscheck passes and the code does not return.

  8. Replace defective hardware

If the software configuration is correct but the fault persists, the physical Steering Valve Controller or the Hydraulic Steering Valve itself may be internally defective and require replacement.
