15288

Case IH 15288 – Steering Valve Controller: Incorrect steering valve controller configuration - Hydraulic configuration checksum

Issue description

The steering valve controller has detected a mismatch, corruption, or invalid checksum in its stored hydraulic configuration data (often tied to the EEPROM data or the Fault Detection Algorithm), preventing the auto-guidance or steering system from functioning safely.

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • Case IH Farmall series (40, 45, 50, 115U)
  • Steiger series
  • Puma series

Check the cause

  1. Check for companion codes such as 15289 (FDA configuration error), 15291 (Valve calibration checksum), 15292 (Valve calibration error), or 15293 (EEPROM data value out of range)

  2. Verify the steering valve spool is in the neutral position at power-up (related to code 15249)

  3. Verify the CAN wheel angle sensor calibration, as a loss of sensor data can trigger configuration faults

  4. Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify if the EEPROM data has been corrupted or if a software flash/update is available for the steering valve controller

Repair steps

  1. Park the tractor on a flat, open surface. Ensure the handbrake is applied and the shuttle lever is in the "Park" position.

    Prepare the machine for calibration.

  2. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the diagnostic connector (Pin C for CAN 1 HI, Pin D for CAN 1 LO). Alternatively, enter the H1 diagnostic menu via the tractor's Advanced Data Instrument Cluster (ADIC) by selecting the EPL (XA) sub-menu.

Establish communication with the tractor's diagnostic system.

  3. Navigate to the Steering Valve Controller configuration menu.

    Access the specific controller settings.

  4. Initiate the Steering Valve Calibration procedure.

The display will show "CAL". Follow the on-screen prompts to cycle the steering and rewrite the hydraulic configuration checksum to the EEPROM.

  5. Cycle the key power.

If the 15288 code clears, the checksum has been successfully rewritten.

  6. Replace the steering valve/controller assembly if calibration fails.

If the calibration fails, the EEPROM data remains out of range, or the controller refuses to accept the configuration, the assembly has suffered an internal hardware failure and must be replaced.
