Case IH 15289 – Steering Valve Controller (SVC): Incorrect steering valve controller configuration - Fault Detection Algorithm (FDA) configuration

Issue description

This code indicates that the software configuration or dataset loaded into the steering controller does not match the expected parameters for the machine's specific steering system, or the configuration file has become corrupted. The Fault Detection Algorithm (FDA) is a safety protocol that monitors the steering system; if its configuration is missing or incorrect, the system will disable automated or advanced steering functions to prevent uncommanded movements.

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • AFS Connect Magnum Series: Models 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380 (CVT and Full Power Shift, Tier 4B and Stage V)
  • Optum AFS Connect Series: Models 250, 270, 300
  • Vestrum CVX Series: Models 100, 110, 120, 130
  • Maxxum Series: Models with DCT or CVT transmissions and MultiControl Armrests

Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying configuration or calibration codes that often trigger alongside 15289, such as 15290, 15291, or 15292

  2. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and verify the software version of the Steering Valve Controller (SVC)

  3. Ensure the 'Advanced Steering Configuration' controller dataset matches the machine's exact build

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Connect the Case IH EST to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Re-flash / Update Software

Reload the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) software. Ensure you are flashing the correct software version for the specific tractor model.

  3. Load Configuration Dataset

Upload the correct Advanced Steering Configuration dataset to the controller.

  4. Perform Calibrations

Once the software and dataset are successfully loaded, you must perform the steering system calibrations: Calibrate the Wheel Angle Sensor (WAS) and Calibrate the Steering Valve.

  5. Clear Codes and Test

Clear all stored fault codes, cycle the tractor's key power, and test the steering system (including engaging the AFS auto-steer if applicable) to ensure the code does not return.

  6. Hardware Replacement (If Necessary)

If the SVC refuses to accept the software flash or fails the checksum immediately after programming, the physical Steering Valve Controller module has suffered an internal EEPROM failure and must be replaced.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • SVC Software File

    51631896

    Software version 2.02

  • Advanced Steering Configuration Dataset

    51573865

    Dataset version 3.2

  • Steering Valve Controller (SVC)

Generic part name; exact hardware part number varies heavily by specific Magnum/Optum chassis and cab configuration. Consult the CNH parts catalog with the machine's PIN if the module is bricked.
