Case IH 15290 - AST – Steering Valve Controller (SVC): Incorrect steering valve controller configuration - Fault Detection Algorithm (FDA) configuration checksum

This fault code indicates a software or configuration mismatch within the steering system. Specifically, the checksum for the Fault Detection Algorithm (FDA) inside the steering valve controller does not match the expected value, meaning the controller's configuration data is either corrupted, incorrectly programmed, or missing.

   Access the AST Diagnostic Menu by navigating the H menus on the instrument cluster (R1 module, menu H3, select AST) to check for any other active steering configuration codes (such as 15291 or 15293).

   Verify the current software version of the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) and the Steering Redundant Controller (SRC) using the electronic service tool.

   Verify that the Advanced Steering Configuration controller dataset is present and matches the required version for the tractor's specific hardware.

   Inspect CAN communication to ensure there are no underlying CAN bus communication errors causing data corruption between the main controller and the steering valve controller.

   Connect the Diagnostic Tool

   Connect the official Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.

   Reflash / Update Software

   Reload the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) software (e.g., update to SVC software version 2.02).

   Reload the Configuration Dataset

   Push the correct Advanced Steering Configuration controller dataset to the module (e.g., dataset version 3.2).

   Perform Calibrations

   Once the software and dataset are successfully loaded and the checksum error clears, perform a complete steering valve calibration and wheel angle sensor calibration as prompted by the EST.

   Test the System

   Cycle the key power. If fault code 15290 returns immediately upon boot-up, the internal memory of the steering valve controller has failed, and the physical steering valve/controller assembly must be replaced.
