Case IH 15291 - AST – Steering Valve Controller (SVC): Incorrect steering valve controller configuration - Valve calibration checksum

This fault code indicates that the calibration data for the steering valve stored in the controller has an invalid checksum. This means the calibration data is corrupted, missing, or incorrect, preventing the auto-guidance system from operating the steering valve safely.

   Verify if the steering valve calibration has been performed recently or if a recent software update wiped the calibration memory.

   Check for accompanying fault codes related to the CAN wheel angle sensor (e.g., 15293, 15295) or steering valve controller communication failures, which indicate hardware/wiring issues.

   Ensure the tractor's hydraulic oil is at normal operating temperature, as cold hydraulic oil will cause the calibration sequence to fail or generate incorrect values.

   Warm Up the Machine

   Start the tractor and operate the hydraulics until the hydraulic oil reaches normal operating temperature.

   Access the Calibration Menu

   On the Pro 1200 / AFS display, navigate to the TOOLBOX or CALIBRATION menu.

   Perform Steering Valve Calibration

   Navigate to CALIBRATION > CALIBR > Steering Valve.

   Execute Sequence

   Follow the on-screen prompts to run the automated steering valve calibration sequence. Ensure you are in a wide-open area, as the wheels will turn automatically during this process.

   Verify Checksum

   Once the calibration is successfully completed, cycle the key. The new calibration data will generate a correct checksum, and the 15291 fault code should move to an inactive state and can be cleared.

   Controller Flash/Replacement

   If the calibration repeatedly fails to save or the code immediately returns, the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) software may be corrupted. The controller will need to be re-flashed by a dealer or replaced entirely.
