Issue description
The Steering Valve Controller (SVC) is programmed to expect data from a CAN-bus-based wheel angle sensor, but there is a configuration mismatch, a missing signal, or an invalid parameter setup. This often occurs if the sensor is enabled in the software but not physically present, or if the sensor's calibration parameters are out of range.

Check the cause
Verify physical equipment: Check if the tractor is actually equipped with a CAN wheel angle sensor. If it uses a standard analog sensor or no auxiliary steering device, the software configuration is incorrect.
Check for related CAN Wheel Angle Sensor (WAS) communication codes in the SVC, such as 15280 (Boot up timeout), 15281 (Message lost), 15282 (Invalid CRC), or 15283 (Invalid position value).
If the sensor is physically present, inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the wheel angle sensor and the Steering Valve Controller for damage, corrosion, or CAN bus communication faults.
Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool to verify the Advanced Steering Configuration dataset and ensure the wheel angle limit offsets are within the acceptable internal resolution range (±1000 IR).
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Tool
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool to the machine's diagnostic port.
Access the AST Subsystem
Enter the diagnostic mode by navigating the H menus on the instrument cluster or via the service tool. Navigate to the R1 module, menu H3, and select the AST system.
Correct the Configuration
If the CAN wheel angle sensor is not installed on the machine, disable the 'CAN wheel angle sensor device' in the Steering Valve Controller configuration menu. If the sensor is installed, ensure the correct steering program is selected and that the sensor is properly mapped in the PVED-CLS/SVC controller setup.
Update Software/Dataset
Flash the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) to the latest software version (e.g., version 2.02) and ensure the correct Advanced Steering Configuration controller dataset is installed.
Calibrate the Sensor
If the configuration is correct and the sensor is present, perform a wheel angle sensor calibration procedure to reset the center, left, and right steering limits.
Replace Faulty Hardware
If the configuration is correct but the sensor fails to communicate or calibrate, the sensor itself has failed and must be replaced.
