Case IH 15295 - AST – Steering Valve Controller (SVC): Incorrect steering valve controller configuration - Wheel angle sensor calibration
Issue description
The steering valve controller has detected that the Wheel Angle Sensor (WAS) calibration is incomplete, missing, or invalid. When this condition is present, the Auto Steer / Advanced Steering (AST) system will remain disabled until a successful calibration is performed.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Case IH Farmall Series (40, 45, 50, 115U with CVT transmission)
- Case IH Maxxum Series (CVX, EP, CVT models)
- Case IH Magnum Series (including AFS Connect 180-380 models)
- Case IH Steiger / Quadtrac Series
- Case IH Patriot and Trident Sprayers (Steer-Ready models)
Check the cause
Verify that the wheel angle sensor (WAS) is physically secure and the mechanical linkage arms are not bent, loose, or damaged.
Check the sensor supply voltage to ensure it is not out of range (high or low).
Check for other related CAN communication codes (e.g., 15293, 15294) that might indicate a wiring harness issue, invalid CRC, or a lost message from the WAS to the controller.
Ensure the tractor is in a safe environment for calibration. You will need a level surface with several acres of smooth ground available, as the machine must be moving for the calibration steps.
Repair steps
Instrument Cluster Method (Farmall/Standard AST)
Enter the diagnostic mode by navigating the 'H' menus using the switches on the instrument cluster.
Instrument Cluster Method (Farmall/Standard AST)
Navigate to the R1 module, menu H3, and select the AST system, pressing the dimming key to accept the menu selection.
Instrument Cluster Method (Farmall/Standard AST)
Follow the on-screen prompts to set the left, right, and center steering limits.
Display Monitor Method (e.g., Raven RS1 / Viper 4+)
Navigate to the Wheel Angle Sensor Calibration (WAS) screen on your display.
Display Monitor Method (e.g., Raven RS1 / Viper 4+)
Drive the machine forward at a slow, steady speed, typically between 1 - 4 mph (1.6 - 6.4 km/h). Note: The machine must remain moving during the WAS calibration.
Display Monitor Method (e.g., Raven RS1 / Viper 4+)
Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left steering lock. Press the 'Left' button on the display to set the left WAS value.
Display Monitor Method (e.g., Raven RS1 / Viper 4+)
Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right steering lock and set the right WAS value.
Display Monitor Method (e.g., Raven RS1 / Viper 4+)
Steer the wheels straight ahead to set the Center WAS value.
Display Monitor Method (e.g., Raven RS1 / Viper 4+)
Do not turn the steering wheel until the 'Calibration Complete' screen is displayed.
Replace faulty components
If the calibration fails repeatedly, the wheel angle sensor or its harness is likely faulty and must be replaced.
