Case IH 15300 – Steering Valve Controller (SVC): Incorrect steering valve controller configuration - Protocol configuration
Issue description
This code indicates a software or network protocol mismatch within the steering system's configuration. The controller is detecting that its programmed communication protocol or dataset does not match the expected parameters for the vehicle's network (CAN bus) or installed steering hardware.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Steiger T4B
- AFS Connect Magnum Tractors (Models 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380) - Tier 4B and Stage V
- Vestrum CVX Series Tractors (Models 100, 110, 120, 130) - Stage V
- Farmall Tractors (Models 40, 45, 50 with Cab and CVT, and Farmall 115U)
Check the cause
Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to confirm if 15300 is active and check for related configuration codes (e.g., 15303 Vehicle geometry configuration, 15306 GPS configuration).
Use the EST to read the current software version and dataset on the Steering Valve Controller (SVC).
Verify that the SVC is communicating properly on the CAN bus with the Armrest Control Module (ACM) and the CNH GNSS/Guidance Receiver (CGR).
Ensure no recent hardware swaps (like swapping a steering valve or display from another tractor) have occurred without performing a module reconfiguration.
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Tool
Connect the Case IH EST to the tractor's diagnostic port.
Module Configuration
Navigate to the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) programming menu.
Flash/Update Software
Reload the correct software payload and protocol configuration dataset for the specific tractor chassis. (For example, on AFS Connect Magnums, ensure the SVC software is updated to at least version 2.02 and the Advanced Steering Configuration dataset is correctly applied).
Perform Calibrations
Once the protocol configuration is corrected, you must perform the steering valve calibration and the CAN wheel angle sensor calibration via the EST.
Clear Codes
Clear fault code 15300 and any accompanying checksum errors (like 15299 or 15301).
Cycle Power
Turn the key off, wait for the modules to power down completely, and turn the key back on to verify the code does not return.
Test Operation
Engage the autosteer/guidance system in a safe area to confirm the steering valve responds correctly to commands.
