Case IH 15304 – Steering Valve Controller (SVC): Incorrect steering valve controller configuration - Vehicle geometry configuration checksum
Issue description
This code indicates that the configuration data stored in the controller's memory (EEPROM) regarding the vehicle's physical geometry (such as wheelbase, track width, or GPS antenna offsets) is corrupted, missing, or has an invalid checksum. The controller cannot validate the mathematical checksum of the geometry parameters, which disables auto-guidance and auxiliary steering functions for safety.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Steiger T4B
- AFS Connect Magnum Series 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380
- Vestrum CVX Series 100, 110, 120, 130
- Farmall Series 40, 45, 50, 115U
Check the cause
Verify Display Settings: Access the AFS Pro display and navigate to the vehicle setup pages. Check if the vehicle geometry settings (wheelbase, antenna offsets, implement offsets) are blank, defaulted to zero, or displaying impossible values.
Check for Interrupted Flashes: Determine if the tractor recently underwent a software update, battery disconnect, or calibration procedure that may have been interrupted, causing memory corruption.
CAN Bus Integrity: Check the CAN bus communication lines to the Steering Valve Controller for proper voltage (approx. 2.5V on CAN High and CAN Low) to ensure the controller isn't failing to read configuration datasets due to network interference.
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Tool
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.
Access the SVC
Navigate to the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) module in the EST software.
Reload Configuration
Re-enter the vehicle geometry settings or upload the correct Advanced Steering Configuration controller dataset for the specific tractor model.
Save and Calibrate
Save the configuration to the controller. You will likely need to perform a complete steering valve auto-calibration and wheel angle sensor calibration, as a corrupted geometry checksum often wipes related calibration data.
Clear and Cycle
Clear fault code 15304. Perform a full key cycle (turn the key off, wait at least 30 seconds for the modules to power down completely, and turn it back on).
Verify
If the code does not return, the software flash/reconfiguration was successful. If the code returns immediately upon key-on, the internal EEPROM of the Steering Valve Controller has failed, and the physical controller must be replaced.
