15313 - AST

Case IH 15313 - AST – Steering Valve Controller (SVC): AST: Steering valve controller failure - Diagnostic data incorrect

Issue description

The system is detecting invalid, implausible, or corrupted diagnostic data coming from or going to the steering valve controller. This can be caused by software glitches, incorrect calibration values, or faulty feedback from associated sensors (such as the steering angle sensor).

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Farmall Series (40, 45, 50, and 115U Efficient Power Tractors)
  • Case IH AFS Connect Magnum Tractors (Models 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380)
  • Case IH Vestrum ActiveDrive8 and CVX Series Tractors (Models 100, 110, 120, 130)

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the steering angle sensor (typically located in the articulation hinge) for wear, incorrect assembly, or physical damage

  2. Check the calibration of the steering angle sensor, as poor calibration can feed incorrect data to the SVC

  3. Verify the current software versions of the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) and the Steering Redundant Controller (SRC)

  4. Inspect the electronic steering valve wiring harnesses and connectors for corrosion or loose pins (located behind the right-hand service door, under the DEF Tank on some models)

Repair steps

  1. Confirm fault code

Connect the OEM diagnostic tool to the tractor's diagnostic port to confirm fault code 15313 is active.

  2. Recalibrate steering angle sensor

Perform a recalibration of the steering angle sensor. Clear the code and test drive the tractor to see if the fault returns.

  3. Update controller software

If the code returns, reflash or update the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) and Steering Redundant Controller (SRC) software to the latest version (e.g., software version 2.02).

  4. Test and replace steering angle sensor

If software updates and calibration fail to resolve the incorrect data fault, test the steering angle sensor's voltage sweep. Replace the sensor if it has dead spots.

  5. Replace steering valve controller or electronic steering valve

If the sensor and wiring are intact, the Steering Valve Controller hardware or the Electronic Steering Valve itself has failed internally and must be replaced.

  6. Perform system calibration

After replacing any steering components, perform a full electrohydraulic steering system calibration before returning the tractor to service.
