Case IH 15323 – PVED-CLS Main and/or Safety Controller: Steering valve controller - Too many errors
Issue description
Triggered when the steering controller logs more than 5 errors simultaneously. Because there are too many errors to handle, the system flags this as a severe internal failure and forces the steering system into a safe state (lockout of electro-hydraulic steering functionality) to prevent erratic or unsafe steering behavior.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- Steiger T4B
- Steiger / Quadtrac series (e.g., 335, 350, 370, 380, 400, 420, 435, 450, 470, 485, 500, 535, 550, 580, 600, 620)
- Magnum series
- Puma series
- Farmall series (e.g., 40, 45, 50, 115U)
- Axial-Flow series
Check the cause
Connect a diagnostic tool (Case IH Electronic Service Tool or Danfoss PLUS+1) to read the fault stack and identify underlying root cause codes (e.g., CAN communication loss, sensor voltage drops, or internal buffer overflows)
Check the diagnostic LED on the PVED-CLS module to determine if the Main microcontroller is stuck in bootloader mode or in a severe safe state
Verify power and ground to the controller. Ensure voltage is between 11V and 35.5V, as drops below 9V or erratic power supply can cause multiple simultaneous errors
Inspect the 12-pin Deutsch connector (DT04-12PA-B016) at the PVED-CLS for moisture, corrosion, or backed-out pins
Repair steps
Resolve Root Errors
Address the specific underlying faults found in the diagnostic stack (e.g., repairing a damaged CAN bus wire or replacing a shorted Wheel Angle Sensor).
Clear and Reset
Clear the fault codes using the service tool. A hard reset (complete power cycle/battery disconnect) is required to bring the PVED-CLS out of its severe safe state.
Firmware Flash
If the underlying errors point to a software interpolation overflow or an internal CAN Tx buffer overflow, use the Danfoss PLUS+1 Service Tool to reflash the firmware on both the Main and Safety Controllers.
Replace the Module
If the module will not accept a flash, the LED remains in a severe fault state, or the internal hardware has failed, replace the PVED-CLS module or the entire steering valve assembly.
Recalibrate
If the PVED-CLS or steering valve is replaced or flashed, you must perform an Auto Steering Calibration. This includes calibrating the Wheel Angle Sensor (WAS) and the hydraulic spool dead-bands.
