Case IH 15324 – PVED-CLS Main and/or Safety Controller: Steering valve controller battery voltage below normal operating range.

Issue description

The system has detected that the power supply voltage at the electronic steering valve input (specifically at connector C361, pin 8) has dropped below the minimum operating threshold of 9 Volts. This low voltage prevents the steering controller from operating reliably, which will disable electrohydraulic steering and auto-guidance features, forcing the system into a safe/manual steering state.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the tractor's overall battery voltage and alternator charging output to ensure the machine is maintaining a healthy 12V+ system voltage.

  2. Locate the PVED-CLS steering valve controller, disconnect connector C361, and visually inspect the housing and pin 8 for corrosion, moisture ingress, bent pins, or pushed-back terminals.

  3. Perform a voltage drop test by turning the ignition key ON and measuring voltage at C361 pin 8 (should be >9V).

  4. Trace the power supply wire from C361 pin 8 back to the fuse panel/power distribution module to check for high resistance, chafed wiring shorting to the chassis, or a blown/corroded fuse.

  5. Verify that the ground pins on the C361 connector have a clean, low-resistance path to the chassis ground.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Power down the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent short circuits during repair.

  2. Repair the Wiring/Connector

    If the voltage drop is traced to a damaged wire, cut out the damaged section and splice in a new wire using weather-sealed, heat-shrink butt connectors. If connector C361 is corroded or damaged, depin the connector and replace the damaged terminals, wedge lock, and/or the connector housing.

  3. Reassemble and Test Voltage

    Reconnect the battery. Turn the key ON and probe C361 pin 8 again to confirm voltage is now within the normal operating range (matching battery voltage, >9V).

  4. Reconnect the Module

    Apply dielectric grease to the connector seals (if recommended by OEM) and securely plug C361 back into the PVED-CLS controller.

  5. Clear Codes and Calibrate

    Use the tractor's diagnostic display or a service tool to clear the 15324 fault code. Test the steering system and engage the auto-guidance to confirm the repair.

  6. Module Replacement (Worst Case)

    If the wiring harness delivers full voltage to pin 8 when unplugged, but the voltage immediately drops below 9V when plugged in, the PVED-CLS controller itself has an internal short and must be replaced and reprogrammed.
