Case IH 15326 – Steering Valve Controller (SVC) and Steering Redundant Controller (SRC): Software versions in the steering valve main and safety controllers do not match

Issue description

The firmware installed on the primary steering processor does not match the firmware on the redundant safety processor. This is often caused by an interrupted software update or a replaced component that wasn't flashed, and will disable automated steering functions to prevent unpredictable behavior.

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • Case IH Magnum series (180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380)
  • Case IH Steiger and Quadtrac series (370, 420, 485, 530, 550, 600, 620)

Check the cause

  1. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or a compatible diagnostic tool to the 9-pin diagnostic port

  2. Read the current software versions installed on both the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) and Steering Redundant Controller (SRC)

  3. Determine if a recent over-the-air update or dealer flash was interrupted, which is the most common cause

  4. Verify the CAN bus wiring (CAN-H, CAN-L) to the steering valve is intact and communicating with the AFS system

Repair steps

  1. Flash the Controllers

Using the Case IH EST (Electronic Service Tool), push a software update to the steering valve. You must flash both the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) and the Steering Redundant Controller (SRC) with the exact same software package.

  2. Cycle Power

Once the flash is complete, cycle the tractor's key switch to allow the controllers to initialize and perform their internal cross-checks.

  3. Perform Calibrations

After a software update, perform the Wheel Angle Sensor (WAS) calibration and the Steering Valve calibration via the display (Toolbox > Calibrate) or the EST.

  4. Clear Codes

    Clear the 15326 fault code.

  5. Test Auto-Guidance

Engage the auto-guidance system in a safe, open area to ensure the steering valve responds correctly and the code does not return.

  6. Hardware Replacement (If Necessary)

If the controllers refuse to take the flash, or if the internal memory of one of the controllers has failed, the steering valve assembly (which houses the controllers) must be replaced.
