15330 - AST

Case IH 15330 - AST – AST (Steering Controller): EH-main spool monitoring - not in neutral at startup

Issue description

This is a severe safety fault indicating that the Electro-Hydraulic (EH) main spool inside the steering valve was detected in a position greater than its set-point (not in the neutral position) when the system was powered on. The system flags this to prevent 'unintended steering' or the EH spool moving without operator steering input at startup.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Maxxum Series
  • Puma Series
  • Optum Series
  • Magnum / MX Magnum Series
  • Steiger Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the sensor parameters in the AST controller are configured correctly

  2. Check if the hydraulic chock valves have been left open

  3. Inspect the wheel angle sensor to ensure it has not become physically detached or damaged

  4. Check the SASA (steering angle) sensor on the steering column to ensure it is not disconnected from the OSPCX in the EHPS system

  5. Inspect the steering mechanics to ensure the system is responding properly and is not mechanically out of adjustment or binding

Repair steps

  1. Read and Verify Codes

Connect a compatible diagnostic tool (e.g., Case IH EST, Jaltest, or Bosch ESI[truck]) to the diagnostic port and access the AST (Steering Controller) to confirm code 15330.

  2. Visual & Mechanical Inspection

Inspect the steering column SASA sensor and the wheel angle sensor for disconnected harnesses. Reconnect any detached sensors.

  3. Hydraulic Check

Ensure the chock valves are in their proper operating position and not stuck open.

  4. Calibration

Perform an AST Steering Calibration (which includes wheel angle calibration and spool calibration values) using the diagnostic tool. Improper calibration of wheel angles or a change in spool calibration values is a primary trigger for this fault.

  5. Component Replacement

If the mechanical system is in adjustment, the wiring is intact, and calibration fails to zero out the spool position, the Danfoss PVED-CLS controller or the EH steering valve itself has suffered an internal mechanical failure and must be replaced.
