Case IH 15331 - AST – AST: PVED-CLS unit is running a spare part software
Issue description
The steering controller is currently loaded with generic factory firmware rather than the machine-specific configuration, or has corrupted EEPROM configuration/metadata.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Farmall (40, 45, 50 models with Cab and CVT)
- Puma (AFS Connect / PLM Intelligence)
- Magnum (AFS Connect)
- Optum (e.g., Optum T.7 CLS)
- Steiger / Quadtrac (MY2016 and newer with PVED-CLS)
Check the cause
Check the AST fault stack via the instrument cluster or AFS Pro display to confirm if 15331 is active alongside 15332, 15335, or 15336
Verify the power supply voltage at the controller terminals is stable (drops below 9V can cause memory read/write errors)
Verify if the PVED-CLS was recently replaced, as new parts will trigger this code until flashed with correct PLM metadata
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Tool
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.
Flash the Controller
If code 15331 is active, download the correct vehicle-specific PLM metadata and configuration software from the CNH eTIM/EST database and flash it to the PVED-CLS controller.
Evaluate EEPROM Integrity
If EEPROM CRC failures (15332, 15335, 15336) persist after a successful software flash, the internal EEPROM of the PVED-CLS controller is physically damaged or permanently corrupted.
Replace the Actuator
If the software update fails or the EEPROM is damaged, replace the PVED-CLS steering valve controller actuator.
Parameterize and Calibrate
After installing a new PVED-CLS, use the EST to flash the correct software, parameterize the valve, and perform the steering angle sensor (SASA) and wheel angle sensor calibrations.
Clear Codes
Clear all AST fault codes and test the auto-guidance/steering system to ensure the safe state has been lifted.
