15333 - AST

Case IH 15333 - AST – AST (Advanced Steering): Steering valve controller - downloaded software does not match the controller

Issue description

Triggered when the software flashed to the controller does not match the physical hardware of the valve, there is a mismatch between the software/parameters loaded on the Main controller and the Safety controller, or the downloaded Advanced Steering Configuration dataset does not match the physical sensor configuration of the tractor.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Magnum Series 180
  • Magnum Series 200
  • Magnum Series 220
  • Magnum Series 240
  • Magnum Series 250
  • Magnum Series 280
  • Magnum Series 310
  • Magnum Series 340
  • Magnum Series 380
  • Maxxum Series
  • Optum Series 250
  • Optum Series 270
  • Optum Series 300
  • Steiger Series
  • Vestrum CVX Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify Software Versions: Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and check that the software versions on both the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) and the Steering Redundant Controller (SRC) match the specified versions for the tractor's Product Identification Number (P.I.N.).

  2. Check for Related Codes: Look for accompanying AST fault codes, such as 15326 (software mismatch between Main and Safety controllers) or 15331 (unit running spare part software).

  3. Verify Configuration Dataset: Ensure the Advanced Steering Configuration dataset matches the physical sensors installed on the machine.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.

  2. Turn ignition ON

Turn the ignition key to the ON position (engine off).

  3. Navigate to AST module

Open the EST software and navigate to the AST (Advanced Steering) module.

  4. Access ECU programming

Access the ECU download/programming menu. Select Normal Machine Update (or Blank ECU Application if the controller is stuck in a bootloader state).

  5. Select software payload

Select the correct software payload for your specific tractor model and PVED-CLS hardware.

  6. Flash software

Flash the software. The EST will update both the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) and the Steering Redundant Controller (SRC) to ensure both the main and safety microcontrollers have matching, valid software.

  7. Download configuration dataset

Download the correct Advanced Steering Configuration dataset (e.g., dataset version 3.2).

  8. Perform steering calibration

Once programming is complete, perform the steering calibration procedure via the EST or the tractor's AFS Pro display.

  9. Clear fault codes

Cycle the ignition key power, then use the EST to clear the fault code stack.

  10. Replace hardware

If the controller repeatedly rejects the software, fails the internal cross-check, or if a replacement 'spare part' valve was installed that is physically incompatible with the tractor's architecture, the PVED-CLS module must be replaced.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Steering Valve Controller Module / Electrohydraulic Actuator

    47876504

Danfoss PVED-CLS. A new module will come loaded with 'spare part software' and must be flashed with the correct vehicle-specific software and calibrated using the Case IH EST after physical installation.
