Case IH 154 – TMF (Tractor Management Frame / Armrest Controller): PTO switch interlock - Cab Switch and Fender switch on at the same time.

The control module is receiving an active "ON" signal from both the primary in-cab PTO switch and the remote external fender PTO switch simultaneously. Because this is an illogical and potentially dangerous state, the system triggers an interlock safety condition and disables the PTO to prevent unintended operation.

   Visually inspect both the cab PTO switch and the remote fender PTO switch to ensure neither is physically jammed, packed with dirt, or stuck in the depressed/ON position.

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the remote fender switch and cycle the key. If the fault code clears, the fender switch is internally shorted.

   Disconnect the cab PTO switch. If the code clears, the cab switch is internally shorted.

   If the code remains active with both switches unplugged, use a multimeter to check the switch signal circuits for a short to 12V (power) or a short to each other.

   If the tractor is not equipped with a remote fender switch, check the controller configuration as it may have been corrupted.

   Park and Secure

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and remove the key.

   Test and Replace the Faulty Switch

   Based on the diagnostic isolation checks, identify the shorted switch. For the Fender Switch: Remove the retaining screws or clips on the rear fender housing, pull the switch out, disconnect the pigtail, and plug in the new switch. For the Cab Switch: Carefully pry the PTO switch bezel from the armrest console or side console. Disconnect the wiring connector, snap the new switch into the bezel, and reconnect.

   Repair Wiring

   If the switches tested fine, trace the wiring harness from the fender switch back to the cab. Look for pinch points, rubbed insulation, or melted wires near the rear axle and cab entry points. Splice and heat-shrink any damaged wires.

   Reconfigure the Controller

   If the tractor does not have a fender switch, connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop. Navigate to the controller configuration and calibration section, and reconfigure the PTO system to indicate that no fender switch is present.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Turn the key ON, clear the inactive fault codes, and test the PTO engagement from both the cab and the fender to ensure normal operation.
