Case IH 154 – TRANS (Transmission Controller): Front Suspension Lock Valve Stuck on fault (suspension will not lock)

Issue description

The lock valve responsible for locking the front suspension is either mechanically stuck or experiencing an electrical fault that prevents it from engaging the lock.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • Case IH MX Magnum Tractors
  • Case IH Magnum Tractors
  • Case IH Puma 125

Check the cause

  1. Test the Front Suspension Lock Valve Solenoid to see if it has an open circuit or is shorted to ground.

  2. Verify the 12V voltage supply to the suspension control system. A low voltage supply could indicate a blown fuse.

  3. Attempt to run a suspended axle calibration to see if the system can manually actuate the valve or if it fails during the calibration process.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Valve Block

Locate the suspended axle control valve block. On Magnum tractors, this is typically found under the radiator where the two suspension accumulators are mounted (mounted 90 degrees from each other on the block).

  2. Inspect the Solenoid

Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the Front Suspension Lock Valve Solenoid for damage, corrosion, or shorts.

  3. Replace the Valve/Block

If the electrical supply and solenoid are functioning properly but the valve remains mechanically stuck (as the code 154 implies), the lock valve cartridge or the entire suspended axle control valve block must be replaced.

  4. Recalibrate

After replacing the valve or valve block, perform a suspended axle calibration using the tractor's diagnostic software to ensure proper operation.
