Case IH 156 – TRANS: Front suspension lock valve was installed but removed

The controller previously detected the presence of a front suspension lock valve (or shut-off valve) in the tractor's hardware configuration, but it is no longer detecting it. This condition is typically caused by an open circuit, a disconnected wiring harness, a failed solenoid coil, or a situation where the valve was physically removed from the machine but the controller's software configuration was never updated to reflect the change.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the front suspension lock valve solenoid for unplugged connectors, corrosion, or physical wire damage

   Measure the resistance of the front suspension lock valve solenoid coil to ensure it is not suffering from an open circuit or a short to ground

   Check the fuses related to the front suspension system (e.g., 12VM, 12VF3, 12VF1 voltage supplies) to ensure power is reaching the solenoids

   Determine if the front suspension lock valve was intentionally removed or bypassed during a previous repair without updating the software

   Reconnect Harness

   If the diagnostic checks reveal that the connector to the front suspension lock valve solenoid is simply loose or unplugged, clean the contacts and securely reconnect it.

   Repair Wiring

   If the harness is damaged, repair or replace the affected section of the wiring harness to restore communication between the TRANS module and the valve.

   Replace Solenoid

   If the wiring is intact but the solenoid coil tests as an open circuit (failed), replace the front suspension lock valve solenoid.

   Update Controller Configuration

   If the lock valve was intentionally removed from the tractor's hydraulic system, you must connect the dealer Electronic Service Tool (EST). Navigate to the Transmission Controller configuration and update the settings to indicate that the front suspension lock valve is no longer installed. This will stop the module from looking for it.

   Clear and Test

   Clear the TRANS 156 fault code and test the front suspension operation to ensure it functions properly without throwing further codes.
