Case IH 1562-31 - VCM – UCM / VCM: Incorrect controller configuration

Issue description

Configuration settings within the module are corrupted, missing, or do not match the physical hardware installed on the machine.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum 180 AFS Connect
  • Magnum 400 AFS Connect
  • Early Riser 2000 Series planters

Check the cause

  1. Check battery voltage (low battery voltage under 9.8 V can cause the UCM's Non-Volatile Memory to corrupt and revert to default values)

  2. Inspect power connections for poor power supply or loose grounds at the UCM harness

  3. Review recent service history to determine if the UCM NVM was inadvertently cleared during a software update or if physical systems were added/removed without updating the software

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.

  2. Reinstall software

If the module's memory is corrupted, reinstall the UCM software using the EST.

  3. Navigate to configuration

Navigate to the UCM/VCM configuration screen. Note: Do not change configuration values from the standard 'Implement' card on the Pro 1200 display, as they will override the correct values; use the EST or dedicated setup wizard.

  4. Reconfigure module

Reconfigure the module to match the physical systems installed on the tractor (for example, changing a setting like line 21 for a grid heater to 'Installed').

  5. Save settings

Save the new settings in the EST.

  6. Restart tractor

Restart the tractor (cycle the key power).

  7. Check faults

Check the 'Faults' screen on the display. If the configuration was successful, the active fault code will become inactive (color-coded green) and will clear after the key cycle.

  8. Test operation

Test the operation of the newly configured systems to verify the repair.
