Case IH 159 – ARM (Armrest Controller): Hitch DROP RATE potentiometer is failed

The electronic sensor responsible for controlling or monitoring the speed at which the rear 3-point hitch lowers is sending an invalid, missing, or out-of-range electrical signal to the tractor's computer.

   Test the drop rate potentiometer with a multimeter; it should measure 10,000 ohms (± 10%) across pins A to C.

   Inspect the 3-pin factory-sealed weather-proof shrouded male terminal plug and the wiring harness leading to the Armrest Controller for shorts, breaks, or corrosion.

   Look for associated codes such as 9041, which may indicate a calibration issue rather than a hard hardware failure.

   Locate the Sensor

   The drop rate potentiometer is typically located inside the cabin control armrest console.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to protect the Armrest Controller.

   Remove the Sensor

   Unplug the 3-pin connector from the potentiometer and unbolt/unclip the sensor from its mounting bracket in the armrest.

   Install the New Sensor

   Mount the replacement potentiometer and reconnect the 3-pin wiring harness.

   Recalibrate the Hitch

   Reprogram/calibrate the hitch controller so it learns the new potentiometer's signal readings to match the desired settings.
