15939 - 03 - CSM

Case IH 15939 - 03 - CSM – CSM: Cab Suspension Left Valve Circuit Voltage High

Issue description

The fault code indicates a 'voltage high' condition on the cab suspension left valve circuit, typically caused by a short to power, an open circuit, or a failed solenoid coil inside the left suspension valve.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH Magnum series (e.g., Magnum 340 CVT)
  • Case IH Puma series (e.g., Puma 200, Puma 210)
  • Case IH Steiger series (e.g., Steiger 450 Quadtrac)

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Check the connectors and continuity of the harnesses linking the left cab suspension valve to the CSM. Look for pinched wires, rubbed insulation, or water ingress.

  2. Circuit Testing: Check for any short-circuits (specifically a short to a high-voltage source) or an open circuit in the wiring.

  3. Resistance Testing: Check the left valve component's electrical resistance across its pins to determine if the internal coil is open or shorted.

  4. Power & Ground: Check the sources of energy (fuses, supply voltage, and ground integrity) at the CSM and the valve connector.

  5. Mechanical Check: Check the component's operating conditions to ensure the shock absorber/valve is not mechanically seized.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the ignition and disconnect battery power to prevent module damage.

  2. Disconnect and Inspect

Disconnect the wiring harness at the cab suspension left valve. Inspect the pins for corrosion, pushing back, or moisture.

  3. Test the Valve

Using a multimeter, measure the resistance of the left valve solenoid coil. If the resistance is out of the specified OEM range (infinite/open or zero/shorted), the valve has failed internally and must be replaced.

  4. Test the Harness

If the valve tests good, probe the wiring harness between the valve connector and the CSM. Test for continuity (to rule out an open circuit) and test for voltage with the key on (to rule out a short to power).

  5. Repair Wiring

If a short to power or open circuit is found, repair or replace the damaged section of the cab suspension wiring harness.

  6. Module Verification

If both the valve and the wiring harness test perfectly, the fault may lie within the CSM itself. Check for compatibility of program versions, settings, and calibration. Replace the CSM if it is internally shorted to power.

  7. Clear Codes

Reconnect all components, power on the tractor, and clear the fault codes. Cycle the cab suspension to verify the repair.
