15972 - 13 - CSM

Case IH 15972 - 13 - CSM – CSM: Vehicle controller - cab suspension communication fault with vehicle controller

Issue description

The CAN bus communication link between the Cab Suspension Module (CSM) and the main Vehicle Controller has been interrupted, timed out, or failed to handshake properly.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • AFS Connect Magnum Series (180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380)
  • Puma Series (195, 210)
  • Maxxum Series (120)
  • Steiger Series

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness between the Cab Suspension Module and the Vehicle Controller for physical damage, carbon tracking, or melted housings.

  2. Inspect the CSM connectors for loose pins, oxidized terminals, or moisture intrusion.

  3. Check for system overvoltage or undervoltage codes (e.g., TRM30), as voltage drops or spikes will intentionally block module communication and trigger CAN timeouts.

  4. Ensure the CSM software is communicating properly with the Vehicle Controller and check for software/firmware mismatches.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the battery to protect the CAN network.

  2. Inspect CSM connector

Locate the Cab Suspension Module (CSM) and inspect the main harness connector.

  3. Test CAN wires

Test the CAN High and CAN Low wires for continuity between the CSM and the Vehicle Controller.

  4. Repair wiring

Repair any broken wires or replace damaged connector pins.

  5. Replace and flash CSM

If the harness is intact and power/ground are verified, replace the CSM and flash with the correct software via the Electronic Service Tool (EST).
