Issue description

This fault indicates a Controller Area Network (CAN) communication failure between the tractor's main Vehicle Controller and the Cab Suspension Module (CSM). When this communication is lost, the system can no longer manage the cab's position or damping rates dynamically, often forcing the suspension into a default 'hard mode' or restricting the vehicle's maximum speed (commonly limited to 15 km/h).

Check the cause

  1. Power Cycle: Cycle the key switch (turning the tractor off and back on) to reset the module.

  2. CAN Bus Wiring Inspection: Check the V-CAN (Vehicle CAN bus) wiring harness connecting the Vehicle Controller to the CSM. Look for damaged wires, specifically the CAN-High (typically red or grey) and CAN-Low (typically yellow) twisted pair wires.

  3. Fuse Check: Inspect the cab power supply and suspension fuses (10A to 30A) located in the main cab fuse panel.

  4. Physical Suspension Inspection: Check the cab suspension upward travel (which has a 50 mm tolerance) and inspect for worn out bushings or damaged bump stops.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

    Park the tractor on level ground, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

  2. Access the CSM and Vehicle Controller

    Locate the Cab Suspension Module and the main Vehicle Controller (typically located under the cab floor or within the side console, depending on the model).

  3. Test the Harness

    Disconnect the harness at both the CSM and the Vehicle Controller. Use a multimeter to check for continuity on the CAN-H and CAN-L lines, and ensure there is no short to ground.

  4. Repair Wiring

    If a break or short is found (often near pivot points where the cab suspension travels), splice and repair the twisted pair wiring according to OEM CAN bus repair standards.

  5. Replace the CSM (if necessary)

    If the wiring is intact and receives proper voltage but communication is still dead, the CSM itself has likely failed internally and must be replaced.

  6. Address Mechanical Wear

    If the harness was damaged due to over-extension of the cab, replace the worn cab suspension bushings, shock absorbers, or air springs to prevent the issue from recurring.

  7. Recalibrate

    After replacing the CSM or suspension components, use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the fault codes and recalibrate the lower/upper limits of the cab suspension.
