15992

Case IH 15992 – MTA CCM / APH: Wrong steering dataset

Issue description

This fault code indicates a software configuration mismatch. The steering dataset currently loaded into the steering controller does not match the required dataset for the tractor's specific build, model, or installed options.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Maxxum
  • Puma
  • Optum
  • Magnum

Check the cause

  1. Determine if the PVED-CLS steering valve, the CCM, or the Armrest module was recently replaced, updated, or swapped from another machine (new units often come with generic software).

  2. Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify the tractor's configuration, ensuring Autoguidance (NAV) and Variable Ratio Steering (VRS) options match the physical hardware.

  3. Look for accompanying EEPROM or configuration codes, such as 15990, 15334/15336, or 15991. Unclearable EEPROM CRC failure codes may indicate an internally failed controller.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port and turn the ignition key to the ON position.

  2. Navigate to programming menu

Open the EST software and navigate to the Engine Download Tool and Programming or the specific Controller Programming menu for the steering system.

  3. Select controller

Select the PVED-CLS / Advanced Steering controller.

  4. Download dataset

Download the correct steering dataset from the CNH server (or your local EST database) that matches the exact serial number and build configuration of the tractor.

  5. Flash dataset

Execute the dataset registration/flash process. Monitor the progress on the EST screen and do not interrupt the power supply.

  6. Cycle key

Once the download is complete, follow the EST prompts to cycle the key (key off, wait for the power relay to click, key on).

  7. Perform calibration

Navigate to the calibration menu and perform a full Steering Calibration, which includes calibrating the Wheel Angle Sensor (WAS) and the steering valve deadbands.

  8. Clear codes and test

Clear the fault code stack and test the steering and autoguidance systems to ensure the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Electrohydraulic Steering Valve Actuator / Steering Controller (Danfoss PVED-CLS)

Look up using the tractor's specific serial number in the CNH parts catalog. New units will be blank or contain generic software and require EST dataset programming.
